The Overlander Train

The Overlander train between Wellington and Auckland is an all day affair. The train meanders slowly up New Zealand's North Island, passing through native bush, alpine tussock-land & small rural towns. The trip is in fact so leisurely, that the driver takes great delight in slowing down as he passes over his favorite viaducts.

If speed is not of the essence, then this journey is an ideal way to see some of this beautiful country.

I adore train rides. There a different feeling than any other form of travel out there.

So beautiful! This makes me nostalgic for journeys by train the husband and I took through France and Germany. Such a fun way to travel.

I just returned to Auckland from a long road trip along these ways. Whether you're on a train or in a car, traveling the entirety of the North Island, NZ is a fantastic experience. I've GOT to try out the overland next time I'm heading to Wellington : ) Thanks for this post--reminds me how beautiful this country is!

I love that you can train through country lines. I took the train from los angeles to seattle and although a good majority of the trip is beautiful, it just takes way too long!

Ooh, those views must be lovely. I dream of visiting NZ someday.
Trains are great, I've only been on a couple but both trips were delightful.

I'm ashamed to say I've never done that trip, and I'm from New Zealand!

The funniest thing is that I recognised that bread before the words New Zealand!
