The Overlander Train
The Overlander train between Wellington and Auckland is an all day affair. The train meanders slowly up New Zealand's North Island, passing through native bush, alpine tussock-land & small rural towns. The trip is in fact so leisurely, that the driver takes great delight in slowing down as he passes over his favorite viaducts.
If speed is not of the essence, then this journey is an ideal way to see some of this beautiful country.

Trains are great, I've only been on a couple but both trips were delightful.
it's on my list for when we move back though...
