Reader Event: Vancouver Island Shared Dinner

One evening in late September a collective of young, downtown creatives came together on British Columbia’s Vancouver Island to share a dinner. The night was hosted at the historic China Town loft of local florist Erica Smolders of Rook & Rose and curated by herself and designers Ellie Chapple and Tara Hurst.

The conversation was inspiring and the sense of community was ever present. Everyone came together to celebrate nothing other than what the city has to offer: wholesome food, kind friendships and beautiful flowers.

I love the evergreen bits in the folded napkins. Brilliant idea for the upcoming Christmas season, too. Gorgeous spread, too.

What is the point of showing perfectly styled dinner parties without a single recipe or detail? It's like smugly posting photos of your awesome vacation without disclosing where you stayed. If you want to inspire people to dine together, some guidance would be great, such as: what are the flowers? where did you get the string lights? can we even see the full menu? The feeling I get after looking at one of these stories is that they are gorgeous affairs far too exclusive to ever include me. It's not a positive feeling.

looks like a dream,
it's true one can easily feel excluded or like they are looking through a 'window' into a warm beautiful party from the cold lonely (other side of your computer) but these posts and your magazine inspire me to build a community with those around me. to make contact and to celebrate that contact in a beautiful setting.
It's not about being given a step by step guide but about sparking ideas......that's the point i get anyway's.
thank you

This is more of general comment about Kinfolk Magazine that I hope the editors will take to heart and consider: have you ever featured any non-white people in your magazine? Seriously. Think about it. It's kind of creepy.
