Hope and Union, S.C.

Hope and Union is the kind of coffee shop all coffee shops wish they were. Like most restaurants and businesses in Charleston S.C., Hope and Union occupies a pre turn-of-the-century house that has been modernized in only the best and most subtle ways. Furnished with only the essentials, the space invites you to stay with your computer or book or group of friends and dares you not to want to return every morning for the exceptional coffee and buttery pastries. Lined with a long porch and set with beautiful plain furniture, Hope and Union harkens back to a time when coffee shops (rather than the Internet) were where intellectual property was stored and circulated.

I've been wanting to check this place out for a while. It reminds me a bit of Black Tap Coffee on Beaufain Street, that just opened a month or so ago. Both very white, very clean, very minimalistic.

Oh, so sad to find that this charming place had closed its doors when we made our honeymoon in Charleston a few weeks ago. Hope its not the end of the story!
