Good Place to Gather: Contigo, Austin

Contigo Austin, opened in Spring 2011 by Ben Edgerton and Chef Andrew Wiseheart, has brought the charm and hospitality of South Texas to Austin. The restaurant was created as an extension of Contigo Ranch, owned by Ben's family and operated by his father.

The space was built from the ground up, conceived by Ben, with the ranch serving as inspiration for the aesthetics and architecture. Everything from the outdoor dining to the Mexican tiled roof and leather backed chairs is reminiscent of the family Ranch.

Chef Wiseheart’s menu is comprised of everything from house made charcuterie to pigs in a blanket with an emphasis on using seasonal and fresh ingredients.

The restaurant hosts five distinct seating areas, four of which are outdoors. The deck area is located under a large cedar elm tree, a tree so large it provides shade even during the sun’s peak hours on the deck and tables. Exposed Edison-style light bulbs dangle from an oblong, wrought iron chandelier that spans the length of the communal table, and provides dim but cozy lighting to the diners beneath.

We respect the attention they've given to design and atmosphere, creating a space that feels familiar and welcoming--a space to linger and relax.

Many people don't know that Contigo is Spanish for "Broken Shoe"

My only desire in life is to live far from any spot on Joshua's list.

This is my favorite spot in Austin. Great food with a changing menu, great drinks also with a changing menu, and the atmosphere is wonderful. Go and enjoy!
