Can someone at Kinfolk clarify why this space (and virtually all of its contributors ) seems to unabashedly celebrate heterosexual life/relationships while completely omitting the non-white, homosexual/lesbian/LGBT equivalents?
This coupled with the fact that the hateful hairstyle called the "Hitler Youth" seems to be the preferred coif of Pacific Northwesterners and Brooklynites that write this magazine make it all a very bizarre, exclusionarily, insufferable scene.
Kinfolk magazine has a beautiful aesthetic, but it seems condescending and hateful towards the gay community. It's almost as if you heteros are trying to prove yourself.
XOXOXO
Kinfolk is beautiful as well as all the contributors.
Agreed, Kinfolk is beautiful, and I definitely see that its contributors are fantastically talented people.
But upon closer inspection, one can't help but notice glaring omissions in areas of racial, sexual, and socio-economic status! Please read your own magazine.
I've never seen so many photographers that go out of their way to specialize in heterosexual weddings!
Surely you can understand! :)

They probably are discussing racial and non-hetero cleansing at these sinister dinner gatherings.
You better believe it, sister.. These gatherings are documented for a purpose, and they are a DPINO (dinner party in name only). A better way to describe it would be a five course manifesto - including the amuse bouche.
Stick around to see the multimedia presentation that follows the locally-sourced cheese course. Truly a frightening heterocentric white male dominated takedown of the LGBT-agenda that is percolating throughout the Portland-Brooklyn-WMSB "real world," threatening us all.
It's a struggle ALL kinfolk will be enduring in the months and years to come, and you can look for the embedded video version in the upcoming vol. 5 ( or 6) depending on if Luka is able to tap his trust fund or not.
Thanks so much for understanding my concerns and hopes for a more inclusive future!
Lylla - so are so right on of your video assessment, not to mention the trust fund reference! :)
Hopefully, Luka will overcome the creative restraints of a privileged Teutonic, heterosexual, locally sourced childhood and realize that not everyone is afforded the luxury of relocating to Copenhagen (from Livonia!) on Daddies' dime for the purpose of starting a inspirational Tumblr account and a "writing" career.
But please know that I'm totally on-board with the fact that a White Persons' sensory experiences regarding food, interpersonal relationships, eggs, coffee, plaid flannel, Redwing boots, and chunky handmade scarves are vastly superior to anyone else's'. I get it! :)
And regarding the Whitefolk Dinner Series...yes, there does seem to be a sinister undertow that needs to be addressed. What do the attendees actually talk about while they're waiting for the well-appointed dishes to be passed? Just curious...:)
Serious question!
XOXOXOXO

I do not work at Kinfolk but as a reader, and friend of Kinfolk, I find your comments a bit harsh and judgmental. There's a magazine for everything and everyone; if Kinfolk isn't for you I'm sure you'll be able to find something that is more to your liking.
I do know there is no "white/hetero conspiracy" going on. Nothing evil or secret happening at the Kinfolk Dinners. Just people getting together with the purpose of enjoying good food and company.
With all due respect to everyone's diverse opinions I would hope that people who choose to post their comments on these pages would do so with respect. Your opinions and comments would surely be considered more valid and honest if they were posted with a bit less harshness and bitterness.
Glad you're comfortable sharing thoughts here, though I wish it seemed a tad more friendly!
Frankly, you'd probably be disappointed with what goes on during our dinner series and the lack of conspiracy planning in our office. We're just focused on sharing beautiful photos and stories about food, entertaining, etc - that's enough to keep us busy without any scary agendas. :)
You're always welcome to reach out to us directly with concerns like this - - nathan@kinfolkmag.com
We have a diverse team of contributors working on each issue, but perhaps we need to do a better job of showing that diversity.
