Dining Al Fresco

Februarys in Melbourne have the perfect temperature for eating al fresco, especially in the evenings. On days like this, it’s nice to find any excuse to have dinner outside with a couple of friends.

My Italian husband loves making fresh pasta and we often find ourselves in the kitchen experimenting with color and flavor. One particular evening this lead to us trying our hand with squid ink, which proved quite successful, but resulted in far too much food. With a couple of phone calls, an impromptu dinner was born, and we spent the evening conversing with friends over a few bottles of wine and our big platter of fresh pasta.

squid ink, oh, it's a beautiful deep shade. i once wore squid ink over my sleeves after a glorious meal of seafood in a barcelona street; amazingly it washed right out.

I've nived in Italy until a few weeks ago and I have an italian boyfirend, but I never made pasta with squid ink. I love making pasta, though. It's relaxing somehow and it can be a great success.
