Container Gardening

Old Faithful Shop has partnered with Victory Gardens to begin a series of workshops in their native Vancouver teaching attendees how to create their own at-home garden. Living in a heavily dense city, they noticed that despite their close proximity to nature, most of the residences are quite small (with a balcony at most) though people still want to feel connected to the cycle of the seasons. From this desire, Old Faithful Shop dreamed up the container garden workshop, an option perfect for a small dwelling.

Their workshops have been a huge success, filling up fast. Each participant receives an empty planter box and learns what is required to nurture a container garden and plant their own cedar box. They are provided with rocks for drainage, nutrient-rich soil and some starters (kale, cauliflower, broccoli) and seeds (lettuce). The rest is up to them to insure adequate sunlight and regular watering. Their next workshop is set to launch within a week, featuring fresh tomatoes and basil — the perfect combo for a summer pizza. I am looking forward to doing this at my home as I don't get much sunlight in my yard (due to big, big maple trees; which I do love as well). I am excited and wish I was able to attend a workshop.

Container gardening is wonderful!! I think a workshop would have really helped me out when I got started gardening. Seems like a great idea. Eating fresh lettuce from the garden is the best and very rewarding.

As an agricultural student I find the idea absolutely super and I'm sure that more and more communities will need to take lessons and expertise on cultivation!
So keep doin' these good job :)
Kisses from Greece.
