Christmas Around the Table

Once a year, when the weather turns cool, we retreat to a cabin. High atop a mountain, surrounded by trees, far from everything. With leaves crunching under grey autumn skies, we head inside and settle for the weekend. No computers, no cell phones, no plans. It's a time to relax, reconnect, a break from the routine. Mornings are slow. A fire is started. Coffee is made. Then made again. One by one we meet around the table. Happy and full, we move closer to the fire. Conversation slows. Night falls.
