Auberge Ostapé

In the foothills of the Pyrenees located near the Basque village of Bidarray lies Auberge Ostapé, a spectacular retreat boasting lush green meadows, dense woods and picturesque views across the Valley of the Nive. Ostapé has 22 guest suites divided between 5 whitewashed, red-shuttered traditional Basque houses dotted around the estate. A 17th century Basque manor house sits in the center of the property, housing a bar and restaurant, while an adjacent building contains a shop selling locally produced wine and homewares.

Ostapé is as much about the food as it is the beautiful surroundings, serving refined Basque-influenced dishes from their restaurant, prepared with as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. While the retreat provides the perfect setting to simply lay back and do nothing, more adventurous visitors can day trip to nearby Spanish cities like San Sebastian or Pamplona, located only a short drive away.

There's something about that part of the world that seems a touch magical, ethereal. Imagine being nestled in the foothills of mountains? Amazing! Thanks for sharing, Jessica.

Bonjour I am French from the Basque country ( but I live in South California) so I know very well this amazing and beautiful area : Biarritz, Guetary, Bidaray, Bayonne, Saint Jean de Luz! Love l' Auberge Ostape the perfect spot to discover Basque country? What was the best food, dish, snack, cookies cake you had there? Did you have the amazing Adam macarons from Saint Jean de Luz?
cheers! Celine
